Western Wind Energy Corp. (WWEC) has announced that 80% of its California-sited Windstar project is complete. According to the company, which owns 100% of the project, 70% of the nacelles have been installed on top of the towers, 75% of the rotors are either built or installed, and the two main substations are virtually complete.

The interconnecting utility is expected to energize the project before Nov. 11, and possibly as early as Oct. 14. At that time, commissioning will begin on the first 106 MW. The remaining 14 MW will be delivered in early December, with installation to be completed by the end of the year.

WWEC plans to apply to the U.S. Treasury Department for up to $98 million in tax-free cash grants for the project, the company notes.
