3M Offers Clean Sanding Discs

St. Paul, Minn.-based 3M has released its Clean Sanding Discs, which are designed to meet a variety of finishing needs for manufacturing, including dry sanding of composites, gelcoats, primers, E-coats, clearcoats, paints and solid surfaces.

According to 3M, its Clean Sanding Discs can be used with five-inch and six-inch random orbital pneumatic vacuum standers and offer dust extraction and extended cutting action for wind turbine blade finishing operations. The multi-hole patters can evacuate dust, reduce disc loading and increase disc life, 3M notes.

"The response from wind turbine blade manufacturers to the Clean Sanding Discs has been exceptional," says Mike Strommen, 3M's wind energy segment leader. "Blade finishing operators tell us that they're not only using fewer discs, but they're also able to produce a higher quality finish, while reducing dust in the workplace."

The discs are available in the company's Imperial brand Hookit format in grades P220 to P1000, as well as 3M's 236U Hookit Gold in grades P80 to P500. For further information, visit www.3m.com
