Atlanta-based GE Energy and Juno Beach, Fla-based FPL Energy have announced the shipment of the landmark 1,000th GE 1.5 MW turbine, which was provided for FPL Energy's Peetz Table Wind Energy Center in Colorado.

"Our 1.5 MW wind turbine has been proven in nearly every wind regime, terrain or climate worldwide," notes Victor Abate, vice president, renewables for GE Energy. "As we note this milestone with FPL Energy, we also continue to invest in technology improvements that build upon the vast experience base of our installed fleet and will result in even higher levels of turbine reliability and efficiency."

According to the companies, by the end of 2007, GE wind turbines used in FPL Energy projects will total 1,426, while overall, GE Energy has shipped more than 6,000 of its 1.5-megawatt wind turbines for projects worldwide.

The first FPL wind energy center featuring GE turbines was a Montfort, Wisc., project that began operations in 2001. Among other FPL Energy projects using GE technology is the Horse Hollow Wind Energy Center in Texas.
