DeTect Inc., a provider of remote sensing technologies and systems for aviation safety, survey and monitoring, has completed the delivery of its MERLIN XS1030e Avian Radar System for Houston-based Babcock & Brown at its planned Gulf Wind I wind farm site in southern Texas. According to the companies, the system is collecting pre-construction environmental data on area bird movements.

Under the terms of the agreement, DeTect provided a company-owned rental unit in September 2006 to start the data collection for the fall migratory season while the permanent system was being manufactured. The MERLIN radar is remote-controlled and monitored through the Internet, the companies say, adding that data is downloaded daily by Babcock & Brown and DeTect for processing and analysis.
