REpower Systems AG, a Germany-based wind turbine manufacturer, will introduce its RE40 rotor blade prototype at the European Wind Energy Conference in Milan.

The rotor blade is designed for its 2 MW series - MM82 and MM92 turbines - the company says. In addition, the blade has been installed as a prototype on a MM82 turbine in Bosbuell (North Frisia, Germany) and will be undergoing several tests until summer.

"We are on schedule with the development of the prototype - the test results up to now have even exceeded our expectations," comments Matthias Schubert, REpower's chief technology officer. "With the new rotor blade, our turbines can achieve a three- to four-percent higher yield."
