The Ontario government is providing $3.4 million to support a wind energy conversion project, led by Reza Iravani at the University of Toronto. The project will develop more efficient ways to convert wind energy into renewable electricity that can be supplied to the power grid.

"We're investing in the skills, education and creativity of our people to build more prosperity for Ontario families," says Premier and Minister of Research and Innovation Dalton McGuinty. "By enabling world-class research to be done right here in Ontario, we're doing our part to advance new technologies and build a cleaner, greener and healthier province."

The investment is made under the Ontario Research Fund's Research Excellence program, the Premier's office says. Under its first round of investments, the government will contribute $115 million to support research at universities, institutes and hospitals across Ontario.
