Chicago-based Sargent & Lundy LLC has been selected by Horizon Wind Energy of Houston to provide engineering services to connect phase two of the Twin Groves Wind Farm to the grid.

Sargent & Lundy will design a 34.5/345 kV substation at the termination of the wind generator collection system and several miles of 345 kV transmission line for the second phase of the project. In addition, the company will provide support to Horizon for procurement of material and equipment for the wind farm, including preparation of technical specifications and request for bid documents, performing bid evaluations, resolving technical and commercial issues, and preparing purchase orders.

Sargent & Lundy provided engineering services to connect the first phase of the Twin Groves Wind Farm, located near Bloomington, Ill., to the grid. Each phase comprises 120 wind turbines - phase one was recently placed in service and phase two is scheduled for completion by the end of this year, the companies say. Once both phases are complete, the project will have a capacity of approximately 400 MW of wind energy.
