Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa, has entered into an agreement with Waverly Light and Power to provide funds for the purchase of a wind turbine to offset the energy use of the campus' new sports and wellness center. The college has committed $2 million from its funds earmarked for energy costs - that amount will be paid to Waverly Light and Power over the next 20 years.

"As we designed and constructed the sports and wellness center, we sought ways to make this building green," says Jack R. Ohle, president of Wartburg College. "From the outset, we worked with Waverly Light and Power to develop and follow LEED [Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design] principles, from using locally available materials whenever possible to paying close attention to our recyclable collection areas."
