Largest Wind Farm In North Dakota To Be Built

Minnkota Power Cooperative of Grand Forks, N.D., has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement with FPL Energy for 99 MW of the energy generated from a new facility that will be built in Langdon, N.D. According to Gov. John Hoeven, R-N.D., the 159 MW wind farm will be the largest in the state.

The facility will cost approximately $225 million and consist of 106 1.5 MW turbines, generating enough electricity to power roughly 48,000 homes. Minnkota and Otter Tail Power Co. are partnering on a new 35-mile transmission line upgrade between Langdon and Hensel. In addition to Minnkota's power purchase agreement, Otter Tail will own and purchase a total of 60 MW from the project, Hoeven adds.
