The Port of Longview, Longview, Wash., has entered into a contract with Siemens Power Generation, a Denmark-headquartered wind turbine manufacturer, to offload wind towers and turbines for energy projects in the Northwest during 2007.
According to the port, it will deliver turbine components manufactured by Siemens to the Klondike III Wind farm in Sherman County, Ore., and the White Creek Wind Project in Klickitat County, Wash. The Port of Longview is the only port in the nation to move turbine blades across a dock with a transporter and dolly system, which was custom built by the port based on drawings provided by Siemens, the companies say.
The vessel BBC India, pictured at left, arrived at the port's Berth 8 dock in mid-March to deliver turbine components for the Klondike III Wind Farm. The shipment contained turbine components for 22 of the 44 2.3 MW turbines for the project. A second shipment will deliver the remaining 22 turbines to the port in April. Ships loaded with the towers for the White Creek Wind Project consist of 89 2.3 MW wind turbines that will begin arriving at the port in April, with the turbines scheduled to begin delivering power in May, the port adds.
