North American Windpower: Two Canadian Wind Farms Closer To Construction

Enbridge Ontario Wind Power LP, a subsidiary of Enbridge Inc., and Canadian Hydro Developers Inc., a Calgary, Alberta-based renewable energy project developer and owner, have received approval by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment for their respective environmental screening reports. By receiving the approval, both wind projects will not be required to perform individual environmental assessments.

According to Enbridge, this acceptance marks a significant step toward the construction of its proposed 182 MW wind farm, which would be located in Kincardine, Ontario, and consist of 110 wind turbines. An Ontario Municipal Board hearing to address appeals is scheduled to begin on April 23.

In addition, the ministry approved Canadian Hydro's 132 MW Melancthon II Wind Project, which is the second phase of the company's 67.5 MW Melancthon project located near Shelburne, Ontario. In accordance with the provisions of the environmental screening process, the ministry's decision will become final on April 2, unless a request is made prior to then to review the decision. If no request is made, then Canadian Hydro can submit the required statement of completion and may proceed with Melancthon II - subject to any other permits or approvals required.
