Teton Village, Wyo.-based Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR) recently committed to purchase renewable energy credits that will offset 100% of its energy usage starting June 1, 2007.

In the meantime, the ski resort will offset 50% of its energy usage with renewable sources. Under the three-year agreement with Boulder, Colo.-based Renewable Choice Energy, Jackson Hole will consume approximately 9 million kWh per year of wind, biomass, small hydro and geothermal energy.

According to the resort, the commitment will reduce over 37 million pounds of carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to planting over 5,000 acres of trees. Jackson Hole is certified as a green company - the second of only two ski resorts to achieve this recognition.
