NeWind Group Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Enel North America Inc., has signed a power purchase agreement with Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (Hydro), the province's electric utility, to build, operate and sell power from a 27 MW St. Lawrence wind project.

The St. Lawrence wind farm is expected to generate approximately 100,000 MWh per year once it is complete - it is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2008.

In related news, Enel North America Inc. and Tradewind Energy LLC, a wind farm developer based in Lenexa, Kan., have executed two agreements to produce and sell wind power from the Smoky Hills wind farm located 25 miles west of Salina, Kan. Smoky Hills will be built in multiple phases, with the first 100.8 MW phase scheduled to be operational by the end of 2007. When complete, the project is expected to have a 250 MW capacity.

Vestas, a Denmark-headquartered wind turbine manufacturer, will supply Enel North America with 56 units of its V80-1.80 MW turbines for the first phase of the Smoky Hills wind farm. Sunflower Electric Power Corp., a Hays, Kan.-headquartered wholesale power supplier, has agreed to purchase 50.4 MW of wind energy from the project.
