The Maine Land Use Regulation Commission's staff has recommended the commission approve a 90 MW wind farm located in Franklin County, Maine.

Maine Mountain Power, a joint venture between Yarmouth, Maine-based Endless Energy Co. and Irvine, Calif.-headquartered Edison Mission Group, is proposing the $150 million project. It would comprise 30 units of Vestas' 3 MW wind turbines and, according to a representative of the commission, would be located on Redington Pond Range and Black Nubble Mountain.

If the commission does approve the project, site clearing could begin immediately and the wind farm could be complete by the end of 2007, the companies say. The wind farm would be visible from the Appalachian Trail, one of Maine's hiking trails.
