Mitchell Technical Institute (MTI), a two-year accredited technical college, will offer a program in wind turbine technology beginning in August 2009.

After completing one year of instruction, students will earn a diploma and will be qualified as windsmiths. Jobs open to one-year graduates will include construction and installation of turbines, troubleshooting and maintenance, and general mechanical work. Students returning for the second year of instruction will work toward completion of an associate of applied science degree and will take classes in specialized areas, including distribution, siting, wind business and industrial controls. All students will complete a mandatory internship after the first year of the program.

Instruction will take place on MTI's 80-acre campus in a new utility training facility. The program will accept 40 students.
