New Energy Finance, a London-headquartered provider of analysis to investors in renewable energy, biofuels, low-carbon technologies and carbon markets, has reported that more than $100 billion worth of financing transactions occurred over the course of 2006.

According to the company, interest in clean energy-related independent public offerings (IPOs) was exceptionally strong in the first four months of the year, following President Bush's "addiction to oil" remarks in his State of the Union address. New Energy Finance has identified a healthy pipeline of IPOs for early 2007, with biofuels, solar and wind companies dominating the volumes.

Wind raised $1.2 billion worldwide on the public markets, compared to $1.1 billion in 2005, the company adds. The investment in wind was driven in part by the production tax credit in the U.S.
