Environmental consulting firm Stantec recently submitted the permitting applications for three large wind power projects in Maine: the Rollins wind farm in Lincoln, Record Hill in Roxbury, and the second phase of the Stetson wind project in Danforth.

All three projects submitted their permit applications to the state within the past month. The Rollins project is the first of Maine's recent wind power projects to apply under a new act to implement recommendations from the governor's Task Force on Wind Power Development. This bill, which was enacted in April, sets forth new rules on developing wind power projects in Maine, with the hope of encouraging renewable energy.

"Our scientists and engineers have been working closely with our clients to meet the new permitting requirements for these projects," says George Kendrick, principal and manager of Stantec's North American wind services program.

Stantec is also monitoring construction of the first phase of the Stetson wind project, which has installed 38 1.5 MW GE turbines along a ridgeline that runs from Danforth to Springfield.
