Finavera Renewables Ltd., an Ireland-based wind and wave energy producer, has constructed meteorological towers on five proposed wind power project sites in the Peace River region of British Columbia.

The company is collecting and analyzing wind speed and weather data from these towers to determine optimal sites for wind turbines, as well as the potential revenue generated from each site. The tower installation is a key milestone in the development of projects at Little Boulder Creek, Mount Bickford, Mount Stephenson, Bullmoose Creek and Mount Bennett.

"For the last five years, B.C. has been a net importer of energy," says Bertan Atalay, Finavera Renewables' chief operating officer. "This, coupled with large amounts of hydro power, places B.C. in a perfectly synergetic position to capitalize on wind energy and become a net exporter again."
