The city council of Glendale, Calif., recently passed a resolution to purchase 10 MW of wind power over a 16-year term from a wind farm in Unita County, Wyo. The city will enter into the power purchase agreement with Portland, Ore.-based PPM Energy Inc.

The city will purchase the wind-powered energy at $63 per MWh, or 6.3 cents per kWh, without any fee hikes over the 16-year contract.

The energy will be blended with the city's other energy sources, such as landfill gas energy and natural gas energy, among others, officials say.

Expected annual cost for the power is $1.8 million.
