Shelton Group, a Knoxville, Tenn.-based communications agency, has released its second study, titled "Energy Pulse 2006," which analyzes American consumers' attitudes toward energy consumption and conservation.

The study found that more consumers are turning to their utility companies to provide information and resources to obtain renewable energy. "Energy Pulse 2006" reveals that 76% of Americans believe it is extremely important that their electric utility offers power produced from renewable sources. Fifty-six percent agreed that utilities should charge a small fee to all of their customers to cover the cost of renewable energy generation.

While only 4% are currently enrolled in a green power program, 44% say they would be likely to participate in their utility's program if it were offered.

"What's encouraging about this year's results is that 77 percent of those surveyed understand that the best solution for our energy problems is a combination of increasing efficiency and reducing consumption," says Suzanne Shelton, Shelton Group's president and founder.
