With the commissioning of Ontario's 270 MW South Kent wind farm, Siemens Energy says it has surpassed more than 10 GW installed wind capacity operating in the Americas.

Siemens notes that there are more than 5,600 Siemens wind turbines operating in Canada, the U.S. and South America, including Peru, Chile and Brazil.

Since opening its Orlando, Fla.-based American headquarters in 2005, Siemens’ wind power business has grown significantly.

In 2006, the company started producing wind turbine blades at the Siemens blade facility in Fort Madison, Iowa. Siemens then opened a nacelle assembly facility in Hutchinson, Kan., in 2010, which was followed a year later by a Tillsonburg, Ontario-based blade factory.

Additionally, Siemens has invested in wind power services in several locations in the region, including both its Americas headquarters and the new wind service training center located in Orlando, as well as locations in Houston, Goldendale, Wash.; Woodward, Okla.; and Chatham, Ontario.
