Moventas says it has developed a gearbox lubrication upgrade for customers operating WinWind-made WWD3 turbines in order to help extend the machines' lifetime considerably.

The first one of these lubrication upgrades will be carried out this summer in Kemi, Finland, where Moventas will upgrade 10 turbines for Innopower in the Ajos wind park as part of a larger service project.

Moventas will upgrade the entire gearbox lubrication system, install extra pumps for the main bearings, change the coolers and update the lubrication management logic. The installations take a maximum of five days per turbine, depending on the delivery scope.

"We have high expectations for this upgrade. Key main components should last until the end of turbine lifetime,” comments Raine Laaksonen, production manager for Innopower.
