Devens, Mass.-based AMSC is reporting that it has received a $40 million order for wind turbine electrical control systems from Inox Wind, a subsidiary of India-based Inox Group.

AMSC expects to begin shipments during the second quarter and to complete shipments during calendar year 2015. The company notes the contract is the sixth - and largest - order since Inox began its licensing agreement with AMSC in May 2009.

AMSC notes its electrical control systems  - which include a wind turbine power converter cabinet, internal power supply and various controls - are the "brains" of the wind turbine. The system enables reliable, high-performance operation by controlling power flows, regulating voltage, monitoring system performance, and controlling the pitch of the wind turbine blades and the yaw of the turbines to maximize efficiency, says the company.
