Halifax, Nova Scotia-based Shear Wind Inc. has acquired the Merland Wind Project from Barrington Wind Energy Ltd. The Merland, Nova Scotia-based project, which has 50 MW of generation potential, complements Shear Wind's Glen Dhu site and will provide strategic options for future expansion of Glen Dhu or for developing a stand-alone project, according to Shear Wind.

Shear Wind has submitted its proposal for the Glen Dhu project to Nova Scotia Power in response to a request for proposals for 130 MW of renewable energy that is required to be operational by the end of 2009.
