North American Windpower: Four Entities Partner On Western Transmission Line Development

Phoenix-headquartered Arizona Public Service Co. (APS), Portland, Ore.-based PacifiCorp, international energy delivery business National Grid and the Wyoming Infrastructure Authority (WIA) have entered into an agreement to work together on preliminary development of new high-voltage transmission lines for the West.

According to the companies, the agreement builds on PacifiCorp's May announcement that by 2014, the company would construct more than 1,200 miles of new 500 kV transmission lines. These lines, along with similar projects proposed by the other companies, are intended to address growing energy needs and improve access to renewable energy resources.

The four parties have agreed to work together on initial activities during the next six months to co-develop these projects, with a decision on next steps to be made in 2008.

Under the agreement, National Grid will act as the lead developer - with support from APS, PacifiCorp and the WIA.
