North American Windpower: NextEra Energy On Track To Add 1.5 GW Of Wind Energy This Year

NextEra Energy is on track to add about 1.5 GW of wind energy to its portfolio this year, the company said in its third-quarter earnings announcement.

NextEra reported a third-quarter net income on a generally accepted accounting principles basis of $415 million, or $0.98 per share, compared with $407 million, or $0.97 per share, in the third quarter of 2011.

On an adjusted basis, NextEra Energy's earnings were $532 million, or $1.26 per share, compared with $551 million, or $1.31 per share, in the third quarter of 2011.

According to NextEra Energy President and CEO Jim Robo, subsidiary NextEra Energy Resources is working on its largest-ever backlog of renewable energy projects.

“At NextEra Energy Resources, we expect to add approximately 1,500 MW of new U.S. wind generation this year as we continue work on a record backlog of contracted renewables projects,” he notes.
