Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has announced that it will build what it says will be South Korea's first offshore wind farm.

The 84 MW project, which will be located off the coast of South Korea's Jeju island, is being built in collaboration with Korea Southern Power Co. (KOSPO) and will use 12 of SHI's 7 MW wind turbines.

Construction on the project is expected to be complete by the end of 2014, and commercial operation is scheduled to begin i.n 2015. In the future, KOSPO plans to expand the wind farm’s capacity to 200 MW.
