EDF EN Canada Inc., a subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles, says its first wind project in Quebec - the Saint-Robert-Bellarmin Wind Project - is now operational.

The wind farm is one of seven wind energy projects awarded to the company in 2008 through Hydro-Quebec's call for tenders. EDF EN Canada says that by the end of 2015, it will have developed and built over 1 GW in the province.

The project, located in the municipality of Saint-Robert-Bellarmin of the MRC du Granit, required an investment of nearly $200 million and will use 40 REpower 2 MW turbines. The towers were built in Matane and Trois-Rivières, the blades in Gaspe, some of the electrical components in New Richmond and other parts throughout Quebec.

EDF Renewable Services Inc. will provide the operations and maintenance services.

EDF EN Canada is currently constructing two other sites in Quebec: the 150 MW Massif du Sud Wind Project and the 150 MW Lac-Alfred Wind Project Phase I, both of which are expected to be in service by the end of the year.
