Building materials company CEMEX says it has commissioned a 1 MW wind turbine at its quarry, located in Madison, Calif.

CEMEX partnered with Foundation Windpower, a California-based distributed wind energy developer, for the development, construction, financing and operation of the wind turbine, which will fulfill nearly 30% of the quarry's power needs.

In addition, CEMEX plans to bring two more wind power projects online later this year. The wind turbines, which will total 6.2 MW of generating capacity, will be located at the company's facility in Victorville, Calif.
