Vattenfall says it has officially inaugurated its Ormonde Offshore Wind Farm, located off the coast of Cumbria, U.K.

The project is the first to deploy REpower's 5 MW wind turbine, and also includes steel jacket foundations manufactured in Scotland by Burntisland Fabrication, Vattenfall explains, adding that the wind farm has the longest "single-pull" electricity export cable installation in U.K. waters, stretching a full 42 km.

Construction of the 150 MW project commenced in 2010, and the first turbines were deployed in 2011. The wind farm began delivering power in August 2011, and the project was commissioned in February.
