EDF EN Canada, an EDF Energies Nouvelles company, has commemorated the development and construction of the 80 MW Saint-Robert-Bellarmin wind project with a blade-signing ceremony.

The project, EDF EN Canada's first Quebec wind farm, is one of seven wind energy projects awarded to the company following a call for tenders from Hydro-Quebec. In total, the company will develop and build 1 GW of wind power in the province over the next four years, the company says.

With an investment of close to C$200 million, the Saint-Robert-Bellarmin project created more than 150 jobs during the construction phase, and will provide five permanent operations and maintenance jobs, says EDF EN Canada.

Located in the Quebec municipality of Saint-Robert-Bellarmin of the MRC du Granit, the project features 40 2 MW REpower turbines. As per Quebec's wind development requirements, the turbine components were locally manufactured. The towers were built in Matane, the blades in Gaspe, some of the electrical components in New Richmond, and other parts throughout Quebec, according to the company. enXco Service Canada Inc. will provide operations and maintenance services, the company says.
