Eskasoni, juwi Wind Canada Sign MOU In Nova Scotia

juwi Wind Canada and Community Wind Farms have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Eskasoni First Nation's corporate division to develop, construct, own and operate a 4.4 MW community wind project in Nova Scotia.

The project's developers have applied for a community feed-in tariff (COMFIT) and await final approval from the Nova Scotia Department of Energy. According to the developers, the 4.4 MW Harmony Community Wind project will bring economic and environmental benefits to Nova Scotia and Eskasoni First Nation.

Over the next 12 to 18 months, juwi Wind Canada and Community Wind Farms Inc. will work with the Eskasoni Corporate Division to secure the COMFIT award, verify the wind resource, conduct environmental assessments, and engage the local community to responsibly develop the project. Once complete, Harmony Community Wind will be majority owned by the Eskasoni Corporate Division and provide enough clean electricity to power more than 1,500 local residences. Construction is anticipated for 2014.
